I woke up to pouring rain and wind on Wednesday morning. It was definitely a day for an indoor run!
The dark and rain were made bearable by a mug full of Frida coffee:

And then I headed out to my gym. To keep myself from getting bored, I created a treadmill workout featuring different speeds and inclines.
-
Minutes 1:00-10:00 warm-up at easy pace (6.4 mph)
-
10-10:30 – sprint (9 mph)
-
10:30 – 11:30 recover at an easy pace (6.6 mph)
-
11:30 – 16:00 repeat sprint-recovery intervals 3 times
-
16:00 - 20:00 run at an easy pace (6.8 mph)
-
20:00 – 21:00 increase incline to 4 %
-
21:00 – 22:00 decrease incline to 1%
-
22:00 – 24:00 increase incline to 3 %
-
24:00 – 25:00 decrease incline to 1 %
-
25:00 – 28:00 increase incline to 3 %
-
28:00 – 29:00 decrease incline to 1 %
-
29:00 – 31:00 increase incline to 3 %
-
31:00 – 32:00 decrease incline to 1 %
-
32:00 – 33:00 increase incline to 4 %
-
33:00 – 34:00 decrease incline to 1 %
-
34:00 – 39:00 run at a moderate pace (7 mph)
-
39:00 – 44:00 increase the speed (7.5 mph)
-
44:00 – 49:00 run at a moderate pace (7 mph)
-
49:00 – 54:00 increase the speed (8.5 mph)
-
54:00 – 60:00 cool-down (6.4 mph)
Pheww! I ran a little over 7 miles and the constant speed/incline changes kept things interesting. Surviving the treadmill tedium isn’t easy, but it can be done!
After a shower (my gym now features Kiehl’s products in the locker room, so fancy-schmancy!), I headed over to Jamba Juice for my $1 steel cut oats. Hooray for coupons!

And then later in the morning – a cappuccino and a very ripe banana.

Yesterday I received a special delivery from my Mom – a whole crate of fresh fruit (oranges, apples, pears, and grapefruit). It was the perfect gift!
The fruit was individually wrapped.

Obviously, I had to dig in to my goodies right away. My day was busy, so my “lunch” was eaten in parts.
Course #1: 1/2 grapefruit sprinkled with Truvia

Course #2: (slightly brown) avocado with sea salt and triscuits

Course #3: lazy girl’s baked apple (I microwaved apple slices with craisins and cinnamon for 1 min, 45 seconds) and a vanilla Chobani greek yogurt.

I had a meeting after work, so before I left the office I snacked on a Clif bar and some peppermint tea to hold me over.

There were some refreshments at my meeting and I was getting really hungry at this point in the evening, so I snagged a small veggie patty sub. Has anyone ever had one of subway’s veggie patties? I usually opt for the veggie delite, but I was pleasantly surprised by Subway’s “other” vegetarian option. It had a nice flavor – I thought I detected coriander…

By the time I got home it was after 9pm and I was still a little hungry – an apple and crunchy peanut butter came to my rescue!

After my snack, I embarked on a special baking project – to be revealed tomorrow!
Question: What’s your favorite sandwich? I’m a peanut butter, banana, and honey girl all the way
Finally, take a peek at Matt’s newest Running Shorts article on running barefoot. I’d be all for barefoot running…if only I didn’t run 90% of my miles on the sketchy streets of New York City…
