Happy Tuesday readers! I am still a bit dizzy (bahhh inner ear virus), but I miss blogging too much to stay away from the computer
Last week, Nate and I took a trip to the Jersey shore. We really lucked out – zero traffic and the weather was absolutely beach-perfect! Now I’m back to the 9-5 office grind and Nate’s preparing for year 1 of law school in Boston. We definitely indulged in lots of yummy food at the beach, but I tried to fit in fruits & veggies whenever possible and made exercise a priority in the mornings.
We stayed at a cute B&B in Wildwood, NJ. The Holly Beach Bed & Breakfast had a large front porch furnished with wicker chairs and rockers.
The main room was stocked with tons of reading material, board games, tea, coffee, and hot cocoa 24-7.
Our room was small, but cozy. We even had a mini fridge – perfect for leftovers!
Our first night at the beach, was pretty low-key. We strolled to the boardwalk and grabbed dinner at a 50′s themed do-wop diner. Nate ordered a yummy chicken, cheddar, and veggie wrap. I splurged and ordered the chicken cheesesteak. I doused my sammie in hot sauce, yum! After eating half of my sandwich and 99% of the french fries, I was stuffed. Luckily, we took a nice long walk on the beach to digest.
We spectated a game of bocce – loved the Italian music that was playing in the background!
The next morning, I was up pretty early. After seeking out coffee and a big glass of water, I was ready for a run! Nate agreed to run with me and we set off on a sunny 45 minute run on the boardwalk. By the time I finished, I was a very sweaty girl!
After cleaning up a bit, it was time for breakfast (the best part of staying at a B&B!).
We started off with orange juice, fresh fruit, and small slice of pound cake.
Course #2 was a toasted english muffin with butter & jam and some scrambled eggs and cheese. Yum!
After breakfast, we hit the beach! Nate snagged some ice for his achey knees.
I drank an ice cold diet Dr. Pepper and read magazines. Ahhhh, this is the life.
I spotted a fresh fruit truck! Complete with scale and cutting board in the back.
I had the perfect beach lunch – unsweetened iced tea, 6″ turkey-swiss-veggie sub, and SUN CHIPS!!
The rest of the afternoon was spent napping and lounging and then we went to see Julie & Julia. I read the book a few years ago and while the movie left out some parts, I really enjoyed it. Julia Child seems like she was one cool lady. I snuck an apple and the other half of my footlong turkey-swiss-veggie sub into the movie theater. It was dark – so, sorry no photo!
After seeing all of the delicious food in Julie & Julia, my appetite was raring to go. We headed to the boardwalk where I enjoyed a peanut butter & chocolate frozen custard with sprinkles. Ahhh!!! So good! According to the Kohr Brothers website, the frozen custard actually has decent nutritional stats: 1 small cone contains 140 calories, 6 grams of fat, and 4 grams of protein. I gave Nate a few tastes
