11 miles on the ‘mill

If you live anywhere on the East Coast, you know that weather this weekend has just been plain awful. The wind and rain were so loud that they actually woke me up yesterday morning! Doing long runs on the treadmill aren’t ideal, but I knew that’s where I’d have to log my miles on Saturday. Fortunately, the time actually went by pretty quickly. I alternated between easy pace and half-marathon race pace, so that kept me from getting too bored. By the end of my run I was drenched in sweat, but I felt super accomplished. Big props to Lady Gaga for keepin’ me company during those last few miles.

Miles 1-2 easy (8:49)
Miles 3-4 half-marathon pace (7:19)
Miles 5-6 easy (8:49)
Miles 7-8 half-marathon pace (7:19)
Miles 9-10 easy (8:40)
Mile 11 half-marathon pace (7:15)

Total: 11 miles in 1:29:30 (~8:08 average pace)

After a delicious lunch at Chipotle with my BFF Joe, I hightailed it home and did not venture outside for the rest of the day. I did, however, experiment with another raw recipe for dinner. Best thing about eating raw food meals? All the veggies!! Between my vegetarian salad at chipotle (extra guac, please!), afternoon snacks, and my veggie-licious dinner I must have consumed 10+ servings of produce. Yay, fruit & veg.

My raw “sloppy joes” were inspired by the lovely Fitnessista. Bon Appetit!

Raw Sloppy Joes (Makes 1 big serving or 2 small servings)

  • 1/4 cup walnuts, soaked
  • 1 medium sweet onion
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 large portabella mushroom cap
  • 2 Tbs tomato paste
  • dash of soy sauce (use Nama Shoyu if you want to be 100% raw)
  • dash of apple cider vinegar
  • Tbs flaxseed oil
  • chili powder, cumin, sea salt, and pepper (to taste)
  • dash of hot sauce

  • In a food processor, combine the onions, bell pepper, and carrot until finely diced
  • Chop the mushroom and add to veggie mixture
  • In a large bowl combine mushroom-veggie mixture with all other ingredients
  • Serve in romaine lettuce cups – enjoy!

Don’t forget to tell me your favorite recipe for a chance to win a Cuisinart food processor!

Question: What’s the longest you’ve ever run on a treadmill?

  • Oh my gosh – 11miles on a treadmill, go you! I think furthest I’ve gone is about 4 on a treadmill (but 16 on the roads :D) – I can’t stand them! If I had a TV to watch or something it wouldn’t be as bad though…go you anyway!!

  • Maybe 5 miles?

This weather was CRAZY yesterday. My house lost power and all these trees fell down in my neighborhood. It was a perfect day to stay inside and play in the kitchen. (well, while I still had electricity that is)

  • I’ve run 16 miles on the treadmill!! Pure misery…

  • Oh man, long runs on the treadmill are the worst. The farthest I’ve gone on a treadmill is eight miles. Sorry about the bad weather. Hopefully it clears up this week!

  • gina (fitnessista)

11 miles on the treadmill? bless your heart. i did 8 once and almost died.
so glad you liked the sloppy joes!

  • Not nearly as far as you! I’m seriously impressed!

  • The furthest I’ve ever run on the treadmill was 9 miles and I thought I was going to die. You totally killed those 11 miles!

  • I agree…Lady Gaga is an awesome running partner! haha!

The longest run I had to do on the treadmill was 15 miles. The weather was awful outside and I HAD to do it…ugh…not fun but I think it makes us mentally tougher!!

  • Damn girl! 11 miles! The fastest I’ve ever run on a treadmill happened today. 5 miles! Not a lot but I’m a newbie runner.

  • Bobbie

Running on the dreadmill is pure torture for me…anything past 5 just about kills me but I’ve done 8…that’s been my max on the mill
I’m in NJ and we are getting slammed with bad weather here too except now it looks like it’s clearing up and it may be a good time for a run. Problem is the hubs isn’t home to watch the little ones so it looks like I’m out of luck. Even the gym is not an option today b/c there is no childcare on sundays 🙁

  • You raw meals are ferreal impressive. I do not have the patience to tackle those…or the cute presentation. Lovely!
The longest I’ve done on the treaddie is 15 miles, this past January. Yeah. I can’t believe I did it either.

  • Tricia

Ugh, the longest I’ve done is 16…and I was a complete space cadet the rest of the day! Nowadays I can’t stand to do more than 5 minutes on the hamster belt 😛

  • Great run! I did 11 on the tread today, too, but not that fast. I think my record on the ‘mill is 17, maybe 16 but I think 17

  • I think my longest treadmill run was 10K…but I’m going to attempt a 10-miler sometime this week to prep for the NYC Half this weekend. I’m not prepared at all!

This weather has completely messed up my brother-in-law’s travel plans! JetBlue cancelled his flight home TWICE, and he was on hold with them for 3 hours yesterday! 🙁

  • Natalie

I had planned on doing a 20 miler outside this summer and woke up to torrential rain… so I did a 20 miler on the treadmill! It was awful and I kept thinking that the other gym goers would think I was crazy. Then I realized that if they noticed I was there for almost 3 hours then they were pretty intense too! I hope that is my only treadmill 20 miler!

  • Ellen

The longest I’ve ever gone on the treadmill is an hour. I do not know how anyone could do one minute more! If I’m doing anything over 20 minutes, I NEED to add in intervals and inclines to keep it interesting. The harder I work on the treadmill, the less boring it is!

  • The weather was flat-out ridiculous this weekend. Great job on your extensive treadmill run!

The longest I’ve ever run on a treadmill would have to be 6 miles. Anything longer than that I the experience starts to feel more repetitive than the movie “Groundhog Day.”

  • Laura

8 miles, between 2 treadmills in 2 rooms…and i wanted to kill myself afterwards…i hate doing long(er) runs on the treadmill…

  • I hate the treadmill … period. I ran my first half marathon yesterday in Sullivan County, NY. Weather was cold and gray but the real hard rain held off for me til mile 11 and the hail was just a short bit at mile 12.

  • Wow! 11 miles on the treadmill is impressive. My longest is 6, but usually I cave around 3.

  • Yum. Great recipe! And the longest I’ve ever done on a treadmill was 12 miles. MISERABLE.

  • I ran 10 wet miles in Central Park on Saturday morning and I say that if you headed to the treadmill you missed out on all the fun! Started out with the idea of doing an easy long run but when the rest of the group I was supposed to meet with at mile 4 didn’t show up I ran the last 6 at 10k race pace 🙂
Years ago I ran 15 miles on the treadmill I look back at that time now and shudder!

  • I love that raw sloppy Joe idea! The longest I’ve ever ran on a treadmill… Probably 6 or 8 miles. I definately get bored on there quickly so switching the pace up like you did is the only way i’m able to last too.

  • Christine

Longest was 12miles back in January…which resulted in an injury that I’m still nursing with a marathon in June. Would never do it again, biggest regret!

  • I’ve had to run 16-17 miles on a DREADmill, the worst experience in my LIFE! But not nearly as bad as the 20 miles my sister had to run on it in her marathon training a few years back..

  • longest on a treadmill? gah, maybe 5 miles. me and the treadmill do not get along, haha.

love the look of the raw joes – how were they?

  • wow, i am nothing short of amazed. that is a long way on the mill! i can’t handle something like that. i think the longest ive made it is 5.5 miles!
