Lindsey - If you decided to self-host and install the wordpress software (the most popular option), the way that you blog will be almost identical. It's definitely not as scary as I thought! Check out www.healthbloghelper.com for more info on self-hosting :-)

Jenn - one of the biggest downfalls of waiting to self-host is that all of your readers (and search engines) have to get used to the new domain name. Plus transferring all of the data can be a little tricky!
