Cozy Cheese

Let’s pick up where we left off, shall we? Of course, I needed an afternoon snack yesterday. I found these mini peanut butter cups at Trader Joe’s the other day and they are dangerously addictive. So good though!

It was already twilight when I left the office (the time of day, not the movie), but I decided I needed a little fresh air after 9 hours of being a cubicle monkey. I laced up my running shoes and hit the roads for an easy 3-miles, ending at the grocery store. My legs are still feeling a little sore (whoaaa weekend 10 miles and power vinyasa yoga class), but much better than they were a few days ago. I picked up some grocery essentials and headed home to make the ultimate comfort food din-din.

I grilled two slices of Nature’s Pride whole wheat and some mozzarella cheese on my George Forman (grilled cheese flavor w/o the butter = brilliant!). And to keep my sammie company – a big bowl ‘o tomato soup with blue cheese crumbles. Because obviously I needed more cheese with my grilled cheese.

My favorite brand of soup is Amy’s organic tomato bisque, but sadly the Fine Fare in South Harlem did not have this variety (shocking, I know). I settled on some V-8 brand tomato soup and it was ehhhh. I wouldn’t buy it again.

And for dessert, I had a lot some pumpkin buttah straight out of the jar. Don’t judge.

I was asleep by 10pm and didn’t peep until nearly 8 o’clock the next morning. 10 hours of sleep + bottomless pit stomach? Whoaaa, what is goin’ on with me?

This morning I woke up HUNGRY and ready for breakfast asap. Along with my morning coffee, I mixed together about a cup of 2% greek yogurt, 1/4 cup dried cranberries & prunes, 1.5 cups of Nature’s Path gluten-free O’s, and big dollop of pumpkin butter. Pheww! Finally full….

I knew my afternoon would be filled with back-to-back meetings, so around noon I headed out for a quick 3 mile run (about 26 minutes). My legs felt pretty good, but the cold, dry air sort of took my breath away. I guess Autumn & Winter are here to stay!

When I got back to my desk, it was time for lunch! A huge, delicious Honey Crisp apple along with a spinach-hummus-mozzarella sammie on whole wheat.

My afternoon snacks were not the healthiest, but ehh…that happens. Sometimes popchips and mini peanut butter cups are more appealing than fruit 🙂

Gosh darn you, mini pb cups.

Not sure what the remainder of the evening holds…I think it’ll be leftovers for dinner AGAIN. But I’ve also got my eye on a little baking project. My cookbooks + oven  just call my name on chilly, Autumn evenings….

What’s your favorite fall tradition?? If I didn’t live in Manhattan, I’d be at the apple-picking orchards every weekend!

  • I always forget to steal those mini pb cups from my freezer at home to bring to the dorm. Maybe that’s a good tihng because they don’t last long

  • hey girl! stoked you found me, stoked on your blog. we dont have a TJs here but whenever i am in cali i get those mini PB cups for my boyf! they are so cute. mmm tomato soup is my favorite, i had some today for lunch. love the addition of blue cheese, how creative! my favorite fall tradition is praying for snow 😉 haha.. no.. i just do a lot of that.. wishing winter would hurry up!

  • my favorite fall tradition is anything pumpkin and long runs on the weekends! (preferably 50 degrees, not this cold bitter weather! )

    Yum, I am definitely a fan of those peanut butter cups. Trader Joes dark chocolate covered pretzels are also quite addicting.

    I know this is random, but are you doing the Poland Spring 5 Mile Run on October 25th?

    I have to admit, I’ve been reading your blog for a few months now and I get pretty confused by your schedule! It seems that you’re always waking up at 7am or later but still manage to get a run in before work! Do you get to the office later than 9am? How do you do it? It always sounds like you’re working 10 hour days!

  • I don’t start work until 9:30am which is very nice 🙂 When I run in the morning I usually wake up around 7:30am or so and am back to my apartment by 8:30-8:45am. Just enough time for a quick shower and then I dash out the door!

    My work days aren’t quite 10 hours long, but sometimes they feel that way…

    I think its awesome that you are motivated enough to run at lunch, but how do you freshen up afterward? I’m not high maintenance but I can’t stand being sweaty after a run for more than 15 minutes!

  • Emily – I think I take the quickest showers know to (wo)man! My gym is only 2 blocks away from the office, so it makes lunchtime runs pretty convenient. My limited amount of time motivates me to run faster 🙂

  • Fav. fall tradition – apple picking, and really cute, snuggly weekend outfits with jeans, boots and big sweaters… I like feeling all bundled up!

  • yes, i don’t know who thought it would be a good idea to label the mini pb cup box as containing “9 servings”. It’s more like 4. Or maybe 3…

    Yeah, there’s no WAY theres nine real servings in there. Those things are just too yummy!! I LOVE apple picking too!! I actually tried to go last weekend but the only ones left were all the way at the top adn those picker things are SO hard to use!! Ended up buying some from the orchard instead…:(

  • Those Mini PB cups are absolutely lethal. It’s so easy to scoop little fistfuls out of the container throughout the day until you’re faced with an empty one…and a chocolate hangover.
