Annie's Whole Wheat Shells and Cheddar

In my ongoing quest to not waste pantry ingredients, I dug out this box of Annie’s Homegrown whole wheat shells and cheddar for dinner. Apparently I bought it for $1 awhile back. The directions were pretty straight forward – boil water, add shells and boil for 8-10 minutes, drain, and add cheese packet. The cheddar cheese packet was soft (sort of like velveeta?) and no other ingredients (i.e. milk or butter) were required. I mixed steamed spinach in to the shells to add some green. Nutritionally, this dish was very healthy – 260 calories, 9 grams protein, 5 grams fiber per 1 cup serving.

However, I would only give this dish a B for taste. The sauce wasn’t that thick and the shells were VERY whole wheat-y and healthy tasting – even for me! I think I might stick to making my own macaroni and cheese recipe from now on…
