I’m pretty sure peanut butter is my favorite food. In fact, I can easily go through a jar in less than a week. I love peanut butter on bananas, apples, in oatmeal, in yogurt, in sandwiches, in cookies, and of course – on a spoon! Peanuts are technically not a nut, but rather a legume.
Nut- A hard-shelled, one-seeded fruit such as an acorn or hazlenut.
Legume- A pod (such as a pea or a bean) that splits into two halves with the seeds attached to one edge of the valves.
Although peanuts are high in fat, it’s the healthy mono- and poly- unsaturated kind. Additionally, these little guys have 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients such as protein, fiber, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese. And best of all, peanuts have ZERO cholesterol and trans fats.
